Our story
About Williams Tae Kwon Do
A Green Bay tradition since 1998 — built on family, discipline, and the Ji Do Kwan path.
How we grew
Williams Tae Kwon Do was established in 1998. Our first school was in our basement. Later we moved to the Bellin Building, where one of our clients was The Green Bay Gamblers hockey team. After that we moved to various fitness centers until making our home on Oneida Street in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. After a short break we moved into our Broadway Street location in De Pere. The April 24, 2019 fire forced us to relocate to our previous location on S Military Avenue in Green Bay. Our current location is 2436 Glendale Ave, Green Bay, WI 54313.
Master Instructor Dan Williams
Williams Tae Kwon Dois led by Master Instructor Dan Williams. Mr. Williams began Taekwondo as an adult. After being bullied throughout his childhood and struggling with self-esteem, he decided to make a change. He joined Chay's Academy of Tae Kwon Do in September of 1990. Grand Master Chong Hyon Chay was the owner and Grand Master under whom Mr. Williams studied.
Mr. Williams quickly realized his passion for the sport and discovered a gift for teaching beginners. As a red belt he was charged with teaching all beginner students for Grand Master Chay. He earned his first-degree black belt in December 1992, was asked to open a satellite school in Oconto, WI, and in 1995 returned to Green Bay to continue teaching at Chay's Taekwondo. He soon opened his own school and established Williams Tae Kwon Do with his family.
More than a sport
There is more to Taekwondo than kicks, punches, and blocks. Taekwondo is a way of life. Here, students of all ages develop self-defense technique while learning the discipline to avoid confrontation whenever possible. The family that “Kicks” together, “Sticks” together!
